Opening Windows Powershell

Quick tip:

You don’t need to browse to Start > Programs > Windows PowerShell 1.0 > PowerShell to launch a new PowerShell cmdlet – just open a Run box and type “powershell”

Also, by default in Server 2008 the PowerShell console is coloured blue. This is for a good reason – it stops you from confusing the PowerShell from the older cmd console!
If you’re installing PowerShell on Windows XP or Server 2003 the default cmdlet colour is black – I would suggest changing it to another colour for the reason mentioned.

You can download various versions of PowerShell from the following location – http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/management/powershell/download.mspx (To install PowerShell for Server 2008 you need to add it as a “Feature” from the Server Manager.)
